Experience the enchanting waterways, vibrant culture, and blooming spring landscapes of Holland and Belgium on this unforgettable cycling and cruising adventure through Northern Europe. Over eight days in early May you’ll explore iconic tulip fields, historic cities, peaceful canal towns, and legendary windmill landscapes — all from the comfort of a beautifully appointed river vessel that becomes your home base each night.
This spring voyage launches in Amsterdam, a city of picturesque canals, narrow gabled houses, and world class museums. From there, you’ll pedal through a painter’s palette of tulip blooms and rural farmland along flat, traffic-free paths that are perfect for riders of all levels. Each day brings a new backdrop: stately windmills at Kinderdijk, contemporary waterfronts near Rotterdam, and breezy coastal lanes along the Dutch North Sea.
As the cruise crosses into Belgium, the scenery shifts to quiet pastoral countryside, forested lanes, and charming cities like Antwerp and Ghent. Ride past historic stone bridges and cathedral spires, follow canals edged in spring greenery, and discover local traditions as you explore Flemish towns rich in medieval architecture and lively café culture.
Daily cycling options ensure that every guest can choose the experience that feels right — from relaxed scenic loops through blooming fields to longer rides that delve deeper into regional history and landscape. Non-riders will also find plenty to enjoy ashore with guided walks, cultural tours, and opportunities to savor local flavors.
Evenings are spent docked in inviting towns where cobblestone streets, market squares, and old world charm await just steps from the ship. From tulip-lined paths to centuries-old city centers, this journey offers an effortless blend of active exploration, cultural immersion, and scenic cruising — making it an ideal experience for travelers who want to savor Northern Europe’s springtime beauty by bike and boat.
Holland not only has sizable rivers and estuaries, these natural waterways are connected by canals three times wider than the barge canals found in other parts of Europe. Additionally, the ship-width canals in Holland and Belgium are designed to be navigated at night.
While an old-school hotel or barge tour allows cyclists to ride through a quarter of Holland (a country twice as large as Massachusetts), a ship that travels up to 100 miles while you sleep allows participants unprecedented Tulip Time Cycling Cruise to experience a superior selection of rides and sights in Holland, Belgium, and a prime corner of Germany.
On most days of our Holland & Belgium Cycling Cruise, our chartered ship will move through the night to find a perfect place to start a morning ride. After we are off, it will move ahead 30-40 miles to where it docks and waits to serve a late lunch. The day’s shortest route parallels the river or canal. Longer options loop inland. Our late afternoon tie-ups are always at the center of a town that merits your pre-dinner exploration. Once everyone is seated for dinner in the panoramic dining room, the ship unties and moves to our next day’s ride.
